The Social Security Administration is the Administrative Agency in the United States who regulates Social Security benefits. Generally, those who have worked and paid into the system are entitled to these benefits which provide payments to retired and disabled workers. These are the types of claims applicants may file for when applying for Social Security Disability.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
  • Monthly payment amount calculated by lifetime earnings
  • Not affected by unearned household income
  • Not affected by spouse’s earnings from employment
  • Not affect by household assets
  • Generally eligible for Medicare, if found disabled
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Need-based program
  • Set monthly payment amount of $771
  • Monthly amount decreased for other earned or unearned household income, including spouse’s earnings
  • Household assets affect technical eligibility
  • Generally eligible for Medicaid, if found disabled
Disabled Widow(er)’s Benefits (DWB)
  • The Claimant must be at least 50, and not have reached 60 years of age
  • Generally, the rules are the same for SSDI claims
  • Generally eligible for Medicare, if found disabled
Adult Disabled Child
  • The Claimant must be disabled before age 22
  • The Claimant must be evaluated and found disabled under Social Security’s list of disabling impairments
  • Monthly payment amount calculated by lifetime earnings of parent or guardian
